Low Brow?
[edit]I'm removing the 'low-brow' comment as it seems to be a derogatory term, and doesn't reflect all of their stores. If anyone has any objections post them here and we can change it back.
I really don't see why would there be any objections; it's totally POV, and therefore I have removed it (again?). Their mall stores are typical mainline department stores that are no better or worse in quality than the Dillard's or Macy's with which they share mall space. The flagship store in Charlotte is massive and sells, among other things, fur coats and fine wine...hardly the type of stuff you'd see in Walmart or Family Dollar. Yes, there are dinky little Belk stores in dinky little towns all across the Carolinas and beyond, but even they wouldn't count as lowbrow; they are by far the best clothing stores in those places.
Controversy Section Merits
[edit]The whole controversy about the sticker seems like an isolated incident in one particular store. I do not think this needs to to be referenced on this page at all unless it had gotten some national press coverage, which im guessing it probably did not. I had a college roommate get banned for life from a Belk once in Raleigh over something stupid and trivial, but its not Wikipedia-worthy.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.163.112.231 (talk • contribs) 13:02, December 17, 2006
I saw that there was a need for a temp page for Belk, so I made a stub. The info is basic and fairly well known (at least among those who know about the department store); I did not copy the page that is the source of the previous article's deletion.--Bjeversole 06:18, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Seems to be a discrepancy with the actual number of stores; made a small adjustment.--Bjeversole 06:21, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Not that I expect it not to happen, but did I miss an announcement that confirms the sale of Parisian to Belk has officially closed? Little Rock will be one of the last Parisian locations to open, and there has been grumbling on local web forums ever since the buyout notice. Still, I haven't seen any news of approval from proper regulatory agencies or other necessary clearance of hurdles that would make the changeover a certainty. — ArkansasTraveler 02:04, 17 August 2006 (UTC)
I find this department store family tree stuff fascinating. For consistency, I made links of a number of these that obviously don't exist yet in order to get the ones that do. Maybe someone "in the know" will do the articles. Luxomni 13:29, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
Did it happen?
[edit]I am eager to find out if the controversial "Silent Kids" incident occurred as shown on the page. I am suspicious for two reasons:
- The group's name is a red link, meaning there is no page for it. That does not necessarily show that no such organization exists, but I hadn't heard of it and have no way to find out more details from Wikipedia.
- There is no mention of a year for the incident or the location of the Edgewater Mall.
For those reasons, the section has been marked. I call on the editor (Bjeversole?) to flesh out more details and provide a source. - Desmond Hobson 23:47, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
Edgewater Mall is located in Biloxi Mississippi. The suspects in questions were NOT members of the "Silent Kids" organization. While this event did take place, the suspects were just local citizens trying to speak their mind.— Preceding unsigned comment added by PhantomBPR (talk • contribs) 20:19, December 6, 2006
Has anyone considered that perhaps there was more to this whole scandal than just the placing of stickers? Was there any vandalism done in the process?— Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.209.150.157 (talk • contribs) 20:46, December 6, 2006
Belk's "flagship" stores
[edit]In the introduction of this article, I have added the four flagship stores that Belk have recognized (Charlotte, Raleigh (NC), Birmingham, and Atlanta) since that should be included in the introductory paragraph. On their website press release, it mentions that they have designated the Birmingham and Atlanta stores their "flagship" stores along with the Charlotte and Raleigh store. If anyone feel against it then please let me know. Thanks! Bucs2004 05:00, 8 October 2007 (UTC)
Other Belk Trivia
[edit]Belk-Lindsey was also present in central Florida, with stores in Orlando, Tampa, and St. Petersburg. There was also a William Henry store in St. Petersburg which was part of the same chain. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.102.70.159 (talk) 01:13, 13 April 2008 (UTC)
There were approximately 20 Belk-Lindsey stores through central Florida, as far north as Gainesville and as far south as Fort Myers, and from the Atlantic Coast to the Gulf.— Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.233.133.252 (talk • contribs) 23:40, February 26, 2009
Partnerships?
[edit]What happened to the partnership names? I do not see any discussion on removing them...I understand that it makes the article cleaner, but perhaps we could get an accurate listing from the company since this is a record of Belk, Inc. history, and all of these individual companies as well. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dreamshop78 (talk • contribs) 05:30, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Using the old logo
[edit]I don't know precisely how to go about doing this, but there are discussions about whether it is allowed here and here.Vchimpanzee · talk · contributions · 18:49, 27 October 2010 (UTC)
- You could also just upload a photo of a Belk store from Flickr that is under CC license and that shows the old logo. Just do an Advanced Search on Flickr for only Creative Commons-licenced photos. Here's one, for instance, and the store location is listed on the right: [1]. Softlavender (talk) 06:18, 23 November 2012 (UTC)

Potential bankruptcy
[edit]The information about a second bankruptcy is highly speculative, and there are no other sources supporting this claim. A quarterly dip in sales is also not noteworthy enough. I think Belk is in a much better financial position than the article is trying to portray, which feels false. 174.215.222.20 (talk) 22:42, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- Oops, IP, I see you kept the Bloomberg source. That is reliable, so I'm glad you kept that. The other source however, does need to be looked at, which I accidentally misclicked to revert, so apologies for that. I have reverted my last edit. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 22:56, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
- I give up. I have no idea what the IP is trying to say. I'm moving on to something else, this feels like a losing battle for me. Yoshi24517 (Chat) (Online) 23:04, 7 November 2023 (UTC)
