Commons pics
[edit]Hi from Adrian! It's an interesting question whether I need to have pity on the 56K people (I've got 2 megabit broadband from TeleWest which is eighteen times quicker than 56K). My pics straight off the camera are about 800K but I find little effect on the quality of the pic if I compress them down in Photoshop to between 300K and 350K so I'll carry on doing that.
On the subject of Commons upload , I'll do a trial. I'll upload my next five pics (all of Nissan cars) onto it and then I'll see how well it displays my image info and my copyright notice. If the user has to click on something like "Click here to see Image Information" then I probably won't do it. If I find I can still have my image info below the pic (as on en) then I will. I'll let you know - Adrian Pingstone 22:01, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)
- Fun Fun Fun. By default the commons copyright notice isn't displayed on en:, but you can edit the page on EN to display it yourself. An example is on Image:Protest 0008.JPG - the image is on commons but I've inserted the copyright notice onto en manually. In future versions hacks like that probably won't be needed, but for now it's a fair enough workaround. --BesigedB (talk) 22:17, 31 Jan 2005 (UTC)

[edit]Hi! from Adrian. Apology happily accepted. If you don't object I'll remove all the relevant talk stuff, future generations don't need to read it! Best Wishes - Adrian Pingstone 10:00, 14 Feb 2005 (UTC)
Galleries
[edit]Hi, just stopping to point out that on at least one occasion when converting the Wikipedia:List of images you've deleted the text from the top of the page, including the {{image}} tag! Joe D (t) 19:07, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
- Oh dear. I guess it's force of habit when doing big edits -> copy paste to notepad and then ctrl+a back in. I'll be more attentive next time! --BesigedB (talk) 20:57, 24 Feb 2005 (UTC)
MTR Map
[edit]I reverted originally because it displays really poorly on my browser! I'm using Safarai, and for some reason on the Airport Express link, it skips a line. It looks really awful, but I suppose I can get over it. Do you have any ideas why that might be? I would also prefer the map to be the original size, personally. Páll 21:45, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
- Heh, that won't do! I'll try another format and see how it looks. --BesigedB (talk) 22:05, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)
quicklink
[edit]I am still puzzled by the idea of a quicklink. Where is this magical box into which one can type m Edinburgh and get a map? But you did point out that using templates is the important thing and rather than having a category (Articles with OSGB36 coordinates) so I have reversed my vote. -- RHaworth 13:08, 2005 Apr 21 (UTC)
- In Mozilla and Firefox you can set a bookmark to have an alias, so that when you type it in the URL bar you get a url. This alias can also have a parameter passed, so you can perform searches and the like. BesigedB (talk) 16:35, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Hi, just to let you know that the list of UK participants at the UK notice board was getting rather long, so I have replaced it with the above category which I have added to your user page. -- Francs2000 | Talk 30 June 2005 18:52 (UTC)
On the topic of complete irrelevance, your SimCity lacks an airport, which can bring additional commercial services to your city, as well as higher tax revenues and possibly crime. --Ted 03:20, August 12, 2005 (UTC) (reply on my talk page if you plan on responding)
- If you are referring to the police chopper that hovers over the corner of either an airport, the University, country club, et cetera, I haven't quite figured that out. I know the advisor screams at you ("This locale is swarming with criminal activity. Build a police station now!"), and despite building a police station right next to it, the chopper doesn't cease. Oh well, it's a fun game. --Ted 01:43, August 13, 2005 (UTC)

- What do you mean by "no primary sources" ?
- Did you take IB geography?

--PeregrineAY 03:01, 9 January 2007 (UTC)
- It's just that some of your contributions looked a lot like what's taught in the IB geo curriculum =) --PeregrineAY 07:10, 12 January 2007 (UTC)
Use of Arthur's Seat image on Edinburgh library conference page
[edit]I'm assuming it's OK to use a slightly cropped version of your image on a page with details of a digital library conference at Edinburgh? I imagine this qualifies as educational and non-commercial. Many thanks. Stevescott edin 19:02, 22 May 2007 (UTC)
Non-free use disputed for Image:G4tvdotcomlogo.jpg
[edit]This file may be deleted. |
Thanks for uploading Image:G4tvdotcomlogo.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read carefully the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content and then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our Criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot 11:03, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
Replaceable fair use Image:GayTimes.jpg
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:GayTimes.jpg. I noticed the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:
- Go to the image description page and edit it to add
{{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}
, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template. - On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.
Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.
If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, fair use images which could be replaced by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if not used in an article), per our Fair Use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Yamla 18:30, 21 September 2007 (UTC)
Disputed fair use rationale for Image:NetBSD.png
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:NetBSD.png. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 20:42, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
Orphaned non-free media (Image:Macstationcairolarge1ki.jpg)
[edit]Thanks for uploading Image:Macstationcairolarge1ki.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).
If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:12, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:HK-2IFC-sj.jpg
[edit]A tag has been placed on File:HK-2IFC-sj.jpg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section F2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. The file File:Operahouse-cropped.jpg has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:
unused, low-res, no obvious use
While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.
You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.
Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}}
will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.
This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 21 March 2020 (UTC)
