Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Googe

Sounds highly dubious to me, but who knows? Deb 18:49, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Searching tells me about Barnabe Googe, a moderately obscure Elizabethan poet; a few people sharing the (uncommon) surname; then a Texan? band with a horrible website, and a couple of misspellings of Google. I really wouldn't call it a common misspelling, and I don't see any evidence for it being obscene. (and even so, speculations on the meaning of a word surely aren't encyclopedic - it is or it isn't...) I'd say delete. Shimgray 20:01, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Redirect to Google. The sentence "Some have speculated this is a dirty word; this speculation has not yet been confirmed" is just garbage. That "some have speculated," without any indication of who "some," is leads me to assume that it is the contributor's own speculation, which would make it original research and/or vanity. So throw that out. That leaves open the question of whether it is in fact a common misspelling of "Google." Googling on "Googe" yields "Did you mean: google," which I'll take as a "yes." Googling on "Googe" incidentally gives over 13000 hits, and misspellings of Google are frequent but not overwhelming; I learn that it's the name of a probably-non-notable band in Houston and a fairly common surname. So it might be necessary to turn this into a disambiguation page someday. But for now, just redirect to Google. [[User:Dpbsmith|Dpbsmith (talk)]] 20:06, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Delete Redirect to Barnabe Googe,. Just a misspelling. No indication it is common except from the same guy who said "Some have speculated this is a dirty word; this speculation has not yet been confirmed". Thue | talk 21:02, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)

  • Redirect to Google, as the article will be 50,000 times more useful when it does so. [[User:Mo0|Mo0[talk]]] 22:29, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
  • Redirect, edit: To Barnabe Googe. This one makes the most senseI can't think of any other article that this might be a mispelling for. siroχo 22:43, Nov 4, 2004 (UTC)
  • If it's going to be a redirect it should be a redirect too Barnabe Googe, as it's a legitimate spelling of his real name (minor person he may be). Redirects that are misspellings should be used only for common misspellings, not typos. (e.g. Charles Schultz to Charles Schulz, not Hit;er to Hitler). I really doubt anyone leaves out the L on purpose. -R. fiend 22:44, 4 Nov 2004 (UTC)
