Delete. I do think that some newbies create pages like this quite innocently, not understanding that user pages are separate from encyclopedia articles. I have placed the following note on the Web page linked in the article in the article as "Contact via Modelbenders." I suppose it might also be worth trying rdsmith@titan.com... aha! I just Googled on "roger d. smith" titan.com and that IS his email address, I guessed it right on the first try. OK, I'm also sending it to rdsmith@titan.com. Dpbsmith 22:46, 14 Jun 2004 (UTC)

This is a note for Roger D. Smith, or whoever created the page entitled "Roger D. Smith" in Wikipedia. This page has been listed on Votes for Deletion, and will be discussed for about a week before a decision is made. Material of this kind is not usually appropriate for an encyclopedia article and I expect the vote will be to delete it. However, registered Wikipedia users often include this sort of material on their personal user page, which is separate from the encyclopedia. If you created this page, you may wish to consider becoming a registered user and moving this to your user page.

Thank you for the note. I do understand your point and agree that deletion is appropriate. I am a new user/contributor and am still learning about how to use Wikipedia. I had read an article about an avid contributor who had created a personal page and I misunderstood how he did it.

Hopefully, I will be able to make contributions in the future without causing extra work for the Guardians of Wiki.

It seems to me that given his comment that "deletion is appropriate" that the blanked article can be deleted soon, without further discussion. His email also seems to me to confirm my theory that some apparent vanity pages are the result of misunderstandings by new users. Dpbsmith 01:43, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)

Per above, I've gone ahead and deleted it with the comment "Newbie mistake, VfD emerging consensus, requested by author, AND already copied to author's own user page." Previous page content continues to be available for review at User:roger.smith. I will restore the page if further discussion here indicates any need to do so. Dpbsmith 15:22, 15 Jun 2004 (UTC)
