- 1829 – Albert Bowman Rogers, American surveyor who found Rogers Pass (pictured) for the Canadian Pacific Railway, is born (d. 1889).
- 1872 – The Columbus and Toledo Railroad in Ohio is incorporated.
- 1881 – Albert Bowman Rogers on his birthday discovers the pass through the Rocky Mountains that would bear his name, Rogers Pass.
- 1990 – An Alaska Railroad train derails 19 tank cars near Dunbar. Approximately 170,000 US gallons (640,000 L; 140,000 imp gal) of diesel and jet fuel are spilled; the cleanup efforts last nearly three weeks.
