Catherine The Great
Catherine the great was born on April 21, 1729, at Stetin in Pomerania. She was born named, Sophie Augusta Fredricka. Her mother was Johanna Elizabeth of the Holstein Gottorp lineage, her alleged father was Prince Christian Augustus of Anhalt-Zerbst. Many sources claim she was in reality the illegentimate daughter of Fredrick 11 of Prussia. Catherine had a certain claim to the Crown of Sweden through her mother Johanna. Her father was a major General in the Prussian army. Catherine led a troubled childhood, she recieved little affection from her mother, and her father was gone most of the time. Sophie had three other siblings, Wilheim Christian Fredrick,Fredrick Augustus, and Elizabeth Augusta Christina, of the four only Sophie and Fredrick Augustus would live to adulthood. Sophie was constanly reminded by her mother that she was an ugly child. When she was seven Sophie caught pleriusy, according to the crude medical treatments back then, Sophies treatment.
