marketing overemphasis
[edit]Far too much of this page is crowing about use of the Marlboro brand in auto racing. This section needs to be summarized and reduced by ~90%. Any demand for such trivia can be satisfied by direction to an appropriate fansite; if no such site exists, then the trivia certainly doesn't belong in a Wikipedia article.

- Agreed, I came here for information on the company's full range of cigarettes (whether current or discontinued), and the article doesn't even mention things like Southern Cut or 27 blend, but has a thousand lines on racing. Interesting information in its way, but unlikely to be why people search for this. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.77.145 (talk) 00:37, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
- Maybe more information about cigarette content compared to the others JohnnyWalter608 (talk) 23:32, 23 March 2022 (UTC)

Freebasing
[edit]"Marlboro kept this process secret for many years, as freebasing is the same process used to produce crack cocaine from normal cocaine."
This is completely wrong, crack isn't freebase cocaine, it's the opposite. Originally the word "crack" referred to unrefined cocaine, later on it also stuck to cocaine mixed with baking soda and/or other fillers and cooked into rocks. Freebasing is what you do to crack to get all the crap out of it. Yes, I'm saying the cited source (Marlboro#cite note-11) is wrong. Don't ask how I know. confusion
[edit]"In 1846, British tobacconist Philip Morris opened a shop on Bond Street, London, United Kingdom, selling tobacco and rolled cigarettes."
Wasn't he eleven years old in '46? Theo27 (talk) 08:26, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- There is some inconsistency with the Philip Morris (tobacconist) article, and this is one of the differences. He was young, but it was his family setting up the shop. I will edit this article to include the reference from the Philip Morris article, and also I will delete the "died from lung cancer" claim. Cancer was added by 196.188.241.198 in 2019 without a source. Lung was added by 98.124.96.60 in 2023, also without a source. Ttwaring (talk) 20:10, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
