Suspected war criminal currently at large
[edit]- Definitely should not be included in the first sentence even if were an actual warrant as opposed to a warrant request. Closhund/talk/ 13:22, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah maybe first paragraph. LegalSmeagolian (talk) 20:24, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- hes a war criminal 2607:FEA8:D61:E800:B5D2:FDA5:212B:AE26 (talk) 02:44, 13 July 2024 (UTC)
- My reply was to a user trying to suggest we add a statement to the lead sentence. The current talk page does not reflect what was discussed. Closhund/talk/ 05:04, 9 July 2024 (UTC)
- Yeah maybe first paragraph. LegalSmeagolian (talk) 20:24, 26 May 2024 (UTC)
- He needs to be widely characterized by reliable sources as a "suspected war criminal currently at large" in order for Wikipedia to use that exact wording. Wikipedia cannot say controversial and potentially defamatory things like that if they are not widely supported by reliable sources, per Wikipedia:BLP. JohnR1Roberts (talk) 13:24, 20 May 2024 (UTC)
- Even if the arrest warrant was issued, this is not something for the first sentence. He would need to be convicted of war crimes and widely characterized as one first for this to be changed. Mellk (talk) 18:47, 21 May 2024 (UTC)
- Yes, there are plenty of people protesting (and maybe a number of commentators?) who call him as a war criminal, but there is WP:NPOV. It would not be correct to say that most reliable sources, and given that this is WP:BLP would need to include very high-quality sources, outright call him a war criminal. This is probably in part due to him not being convicted of war crimes by a court. Of course, there are people as you mentioned who would like to see him face court but this is different and more of a matter of opinion rather than a statement of fact. and info about Benjamin Netanyahu speaking to us congress on july 24 2024 in the prime minister 6th term section

- Not done: it's not clear what changes you want to be made. Please mention the specific changes in a "change X to Y" format and provide a reliable source if appropriate. Charliehdb (talk) 14:41, 21 July 2024 (UTC)
The ICC issued a warrant for Netanyahu for war crimes including genocide and not only the ICC prosecutor has applied for such a warrant as the article wrongfully states. Netanyahu is a war criminal and should be recognised as. Stop trying to whitewash his crime on Wikipedia. Thank you! 2A02:2F09:101:CB00:A14B:8133:DF3:2A8C (talk) 19:28, 24 July 2024 (UTC)

[edit]Can someone help me with the following:
- Citation for the claim that Netanyahu has ties with Mitt Romney is in this NY Times article. Please help add this.
- Citation for the claim that the US abstained on the UNSC resolution asking for an end to Israeli settlements is in this Times of Israel article. Also, the context that this was under the Obama administration should be added up-front instead of towards the end of the paragraph.
- Please add a paragraph on Netanyahu's relationship with Argentinian PMs. I see that Netanyahu has a good relationship with Millei and a polite relationship with Alberto Fernández
- Please add a paragraph on Netanyahu's cordial relationship with Xi Jinping (This might have changed due to Xi Jinping's diplomacy in Gaza/West Bank, so please use the latest source)

- Never mind, I'm able to edit this article now. I have added these, except for the relationship with Alberto Fernández, which on further reading seems to be more nuanced and transactional. CoolAndUniqueUsername (talk) 14:44, 31 July 2024 (UTC)

Is it "Benjamin" or "Binyamin"?
[edit]In the economist article it keeps referring to him as Binyamin Netanyahu so which one is it? "Benjamin" or "Binyamin"? https://www.economist.com/middle-east-and-africa/2024/09/19/israels-government-is-again-trying-to-hobble-its-supreme-court DataCrusade1999 (talk) 13:16, 24 September 2024 (UTC)
- @DataCrusade1999 Binyamin is the Hebrew pronunciation and spelling of the name Benjamin which is where the name originates from. Netanyahu is named after the biblical figure Benjamin whose name was spelled as Binyamin. FloridaMan21 02:17, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Under the "personal life" >> "family and background" section of this page, there is an unrelated quote (Regarding the Palestinian people, he stated: "That they won't be able to face [anymore] the war with us, which will include withholding food from Arab cities, preventing education, terminating electrical power and more. They won't be able to exist, and they will run away from here. But it all depends on the war, and whether we will win the battles with them."). While this may be a true quote, it is not "family and background" or "personal life" and therefore this is in the incorrect section. Lonesomecowboybill (talk) 08:19, 28 September 2024 (UTC)
- I agree. This quote was misplaced on purpose as a propaganda. This quote should be placed somewhere in the "Political positions" section. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:12, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- This isn't a quote from Benjamin Netanyahu but from Benzion Netanyahu. I'm not sure if it's relevant to this article, given it's his father's position and not his own, but the quote wasn't actually in that original source (Although it is mentioned in one source, 972 Magazine, which I've since tacked on). Netanyahu has now been prime minister of Israel for 17 years. 194.230.146.217 (talk) 06:43, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Counting day by day is original synthesis. No source says that he has been prime minister of Israel for 17 years. I think we should delete the number of years altogether. The fact that he's the longest serving prime minister in Israel's history is good enough. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:20, 30 September 2024 (UTC)
- Done Being able to count is technically not considered original research by policy, though AP ("After tumbling in polls, Netanyahu clings to power and aims to improve political standing during war". 2024-01-03. Retrieved 2024-10-16.) and Forward (Kornbluh, Jacob (2024-01-04). "Analysis: Caught by surprise on Oct. 7, Netanyahu looks to preserve his power post-war". Retrieved 2024-10-16.) both mention it. "At MIT, Netanyahu studied a double-load while simultaneously taking courses at Harvard University, completing a master's degree in two and a half years" -> change to -> "At MIT, Netanyahu studied a double-load while simultaneously taking courses at Harvard University, completing a bachelor's degree in two and a half years."
Rationale: quote from the source, "When he showed he could handle the work, Mr. Netanyahu was permitted to continue with the double-load, enabling him-despite the break for war duty-to obtain the SB in architecture (art and design) in 2 and 1/2 years, in February 1975." SB stands for bachelor of science in Latin. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:A027:6AAA:59C8:CCF6 (talk) 11:05, 30 September 2024 (UTC)

In 1976, Netanyahu graduated near the top of his class at the MIT Sloan School of Management.[1] -> replace this source with this source (2, source 46 in the article).
Rationale: source 1 does not have the cited information. Source 2 does. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:BDFD:4CD3:6B69:33F1 (talk) 07:52, 11 October 2024 (UTC)
- Removed instead. Source 2 does not confirm graduation or marks, but source 1 is ambiguous on what and where. Sentence is partially redundant anyway. Alpha3031 (t • c) 07:04, 16 October 2024 (UTC)
- Alpha3031 a quote from source 2: "Without breaking stride, Mr. Netanyahu, known to his friends as Bibi, went on to his studies at the Sloan School, co-authoring a nearly 100-page thesis and earning the SM in management in May, 1976." SM is Master of Science in Latin. "Near the top of his class" is unsourced. 2600:6C44:117F:95BE:712D:9586:53F9:76BC (talk) 04:56, 18 October 2024 (UTC)
