Basra ever controlled by the Mamluks?
[edit]the Article claims that around/after Mongol period Basra was controlled by Mamluk Bahri dynasty. This claim just refers to the map used in Bahri Mamluk article which in turn is not backed up by any reference it seems. Is there any evidence?
Population for Basra and Basra Province
[edit]Our source for Basra city says "Basra province, or Al Basrah province, is a province of iraq, with an area of 19,070 square kilometers and an estimated population of about 1,880,000 (2003)." [1] It includes this: UN Data 2003: Towns in Al-Basrah Province Population Shatt Al Arab 106,000 Al Madiana 158,800 Al Qurnah 137,400 Al Faw 21,700 Abu al Khasib 126,800 Al Zubair 277,200 Basrah 1,052,200 Total 1,880,100
Below is the discussion from the archive. Is there a way to get a more reasonable figure for the pop than the unsourced one we have in the lead? (Msrasnw (talk) 13:18, 14 June 2009 (UTC))
- Source turns out to be an abandoned website and also turns out to be on Wikipedia's blacklist. Dagnabbit. 192.12.88.49 (talk) 14:22, 1 October 2012 (UTC)

Second largest city in Iraq
[edit]Mosul is the second largest city in Iraq, not Basra, unless you count Mosul under the control of the Islamic State then consequently/maybe it is not applicable. Thoughts? Alastairjc (talk) 01:06, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
- That has been a point of debate in Iraq for years. It is unresolved and won't be until there's a census. 155.213.224.59 (talk) 13:48, 16 June 2017 (UTC)
What is missing from the city timeline? Please add relevant content. Thank you. -- M2545 (talk) 10:16, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Twin Cities and Sister Cities???
[edit]I'm confused how these cities could be sister cities of Basra? Only one is even in the same country, and one is in Texas? --JaredMithrandir (talk) 00:07, 4 March 2016 (UTC)
