Two Survive?
[edit]I should say three, i.e. the 49ers, with the Browns (Version 1.) renamed and moved, and the Colts moved; I'll change this if no one objects . . . Nhrenton 12:01, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
- The original Colts from the AAFC folded after a short time in the NFL. The current Colts were an expansion team named for the original. Wahkeenah 13:50, 23 January 2007 (UTC)
Thanks! Nhrenton 17:35, 8 February 2007 (UTC)
AAFC All-Star Game
[edit]The game was played in 1949, yet location of the game links to Rice Stadium, which wasn't opened until 1950. I would assume it was played at the original Rice Stadium, part of which exists as the Rice Track/Soccer Stadium today. I think it would be better to link to that page instead. Feel free to revert my changes if inaccurate. Boznia 08:37, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
"The World Series of Pro Football"
[edit]The 1949 champions of the NFL and AAFC met in the opening game of the 1950 NFL season in what amounted to an unofficial interleague championship. Although a regular season game, it is detailed here because of its unusual significance.
Cleveland Browns 35, Philadelphia Eagles 10
[edit]1 | 2 | 3 | 4 | Total | |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
Cleveland Browns (1949: 11-1-2) | 7 | 7 | 7 | 14 | 35 |
Philadelphia Eagles (1949: 12-1) | 3 | 0 | 0 | 7 | 10 |
Sep. 16, 1950 at Municipal Stadium, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
- Scoring
- PHI. - FG Patton 15
- CLE. - D. Jones 59 pass from Graham (Groza kick)
- CLE. - Lavelli 26 pass from Graham (Groza kick)
- CLE. - Speedie 12 pass from Graham (Groza kick)
- PHI. - Pihos 17 pass from MacKrides (Patton kick)
- CLE. - Graham 1 run (Groza kick)
- CLE. - Bumgardner 1 run (Groza kick)
I put here instead of just deleting. I think it is a bit overstated to refer to a regular season game in then mergerd league the NEXT season as an unofficial world championship game between league champions of the PREVIOUS year. I also wonder would this been included had the Eagles won the game. Smith03 12:11, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
First, thank you for not deleting the box score. As the closest thing to a direct match-up between the 1949 champions, and as one of the most significant games of this era, I gave this game special mention. I have to agree that "unofficial world championship" was an overstatement, and have modified the section accordingly. Finally, it's good to see interest in this fascinating, all-too-forgotten league. Fair use rationale for Image:46AAFC-USA-states.PNG
[edit]Image:46AAFC-USA-states.PNG is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. New "AAFL" doesn't belong here
[edit]Granted, there is a new All-America Football League (not Conference!) under the aegis of the NFL, but it is clearly not a continuation of the subject of this article, but a start-up "minor league" to replace NFL Europe. Please do not add anything about the new league to the AAFC article: the AAFL has its own article under All American Football League.147.70.242.40 (talk) 23:40, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

Seahawks-Colts
[edit]I don't believe they are same team. I believe Miami was kicked out of the league or folded and the Colts where a new franchise not a relocation. the players for miami may have made up the baltimore team in 47, but i think they are seperate franchises Smith03 (talk) 21:13, 16 July 2012 (UTC)

Where are the citations?
[edit]This article is sadly lacking in citations, and reads as blathering fandom. It needs to be rewritten from an objective POV. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Sd31263 (talk • contribs) 19:09, 21 January 2021 (UTC)
