Former Boxer?
[edit]He just boxed on Fox Sports Net. Was that a old fight or is he still boxing today? --Contrib 18:40, 28 Apr 2005 (UTC)
He's still boxing.
Wasn't he the chap that went into the Marines and didn't make it through boot camp? It seemed like it was all downhill for him from there with bankruptcy, etc. Does anyone think he can make any sort of comeback, or at least win enough to pay his bills?
my response..he fought recently on the Klitschko Rahman undercard..he won, but it wasnt very impressive. little chance of being any threat..best thing boxing wise might be another holy fight. but holy should win that at this point. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.255.46.89 (talk) 01:41, 1 January 2009 (UTC)
Bowe error in Holyfeild fight #3!
[edit]It was misquoted on the timeline of Riddick Bowe's win against Holyfield in the final fight of their trilogy. It was previously stated that Bowe had suffered from a knockout in Round 5. However, this was the round that Bowe dominated and George Foreman, a commentator during the fight was up and screaming to stop the fight because of what he thought at the time was Holyfield's heart problems. It's correct that Holyfield had hepatitis A, but Bowe did not go down until round 6. I own the trilogy, and it ya'll wanted to add that afterwards, the 3 judges also had Holyfield winning the fight by 1 point after Holyfield's demise in the 8th round. I just wanted to clarify that for you and I hope it helps. If you want to watch the fight to double check, go ahead. But, it was round 6 that Holyfield knocked him down, not 5. Thanks.
Where's the bio?
[edit]It seems most of the article is a timeline, and not enough of a biography of his career. I suggest a total revamp of the entire article. Maya Levy 05:36, 11 February 2006 (UTC)
Inaccuracies
[edit]1. Holyfield wasn't deeply stung by the media, yeah Holyfied was seen as a small heavyweight, I don't think he really cared about the hoopla over it, he went about his business.
2. Holyfield was in the Olympics as a light heavyweight, he began his career as a cruiserweight with his debut at 177 1/2 pounds (175 is the light heavyweight limit).
3. During his reign, Bowe was looking to fight Holyfield again, rather than risk a chance against talented, young, Lennox Lewis. The paragraph of his reign doesn't seem like a neutral POV.
4. Not necessarily an inaccuracy, but doesn't the timeline seem a bit redundant?

npov
[edit]The article, which if you look at the page's history was originated by me, was rewritten by a well meaning, real knowleageble boxing fan but whose words make ot look more like a magazine article.
Thanks and God bless you!
So can someone say why the neutrality is disputed? If not, I'm going to take the tag off. Wandering Man
- Just had a read through. It could do with a cleanup with regards to some non-encyclopedic language but looks basically sound with regards to neutrality. --LiamE 16:55, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
There are still a few words that seem a little biased against Bowe. For instance, "Two comeback fights were not overly impressive". And later, "Bowe outpointed the 1992 Olympian in a dull fight..." These descriptions really don't give Bowe much credit for these two victories. Isn't it better to leave out subjective terms like "dull"?
One other thing. In the fights against Golotta, the article mentions "shots to his testicles". This sounds pretty weird. The standard boxing terminology is just to say that there were "low blows" in the fight. Deepfryer99 (talk) 17:51, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I read that and thought about changing the testicles bit, but low blow just doesnt do what he did justice. It was several consecutive well aimed blows directly at the love spuds, not just anywhere below the belt. As for the dull and not overly impressive fights either that should be cited or should go. --LiamE (talk) 20:11, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- On second thoughts I made a slight change as testicles is not the plural of testicle. --LiamE (talk) 10:08, 3 January 2008 (UTC)
December 6th changes
[edit]I've taken the npov tag off and rewritten the article somewhat, both incorporating some of the suggestions above and trying to make it flow better. What does everyone think? Wandering Man
Fan Man detail
[edit]According to a reply of the Bowe-Holyfield rematch I just saw on ESPN, the "Fan Man" incident resulted in a 21-minute delay. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.163.98.168 (talk) 08:17, 6 May 2007 (UTC).
Numerous problems with this article
[edit]It said how Mr. Bowe was remembered for his trilogy with Holyfield. Then it says Bowe's only loss was to Holyfield, "whom he beat twice. POV to add that- if he fought Holyfield thrice and had 1 loss to him, it's fairly obvious that he beat him twice. Next, I have removed the statement that he was approchable; "the anti-Mike Tyson, ect. Although it was sourced, the editor formed an opinion of his or her own based on a newspaper article. As far as the remarks about Mr. Bowe being amiable, ect., let's not forget that Mr. Bowe was arrested for kidnapping his wife and children.Mk5384 (talk) 13:22, 26 February 2010 (UTC)
I have made 31 edits to this article, and it's still nowhere near the shape in which it would be. Any help would be appreciated.Mk5384 (talk) 14:21, 26 February 2010 (UTC)

Birth year?
[edit]There is a discrepancy on this page about his birth year. Was it 1967 or 1968? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 8.7.228.252 (talk) 20:21, 14 February 2012 (UTC)
Capitalizing world heavyweight champion?
[edit]In the American dialect we don't capitalize world heavyweight champion in our writing. This article should use lowercase, as is normal.--Don King's hair (talk) 00:15, 26 September 2012 (UTC)
In American dialect pronouns are capitalized. Hence, titles. --TheShadowCrow (talk) 22:03, 1 October 2012 (UTC)
- I believe you are mistaken. Can you provide some reliable sources that capitalize these terms?--Don King's hair (talk) 00:56, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MOS:CAPS#Titles_of_people
Similar to the same reason why "president" is capitalized when saying "President Richard Nixon" and "Heavyweight Champion Mike Tyson"
Titles are cap'd.--TheShadowCrow (talk) 15:15, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
- No it's not similar to that. It is never "followed by a person's name" in this article. Can you provide some reliable sources that capitalize it the way you want to?--Don King's hair (talk) 18:57, 3 October 2012 (UTC)
